I can definitely see Huckleberry Finn (upper right).

In the upper left, I can make out 'of narcissism', which is probably 'Culture of Narcissism: American Life in an Age of Diminishing Expectations' by Christopher Lasch.

Upper middle has 'rt Choices'. This is probably 'Smart Choices: A Practical
Guide to Making Better Decisions' by John S. Hammond, Ralph L. Keeney, Howard Raiffa.

So what's this about bookcase OCR? That's what I was googling for. Is it something real or just a wish?

this is brilliant! Can't wait - and there are already his cookery 'essays' to read right now - the Essay on Tea with arguments as to wether one should put the milk in first or the tea...classic!

Try concentrating on the basics. In Chertsey, for example:

1. An MBS section without M Scott Peck is a joke.

2. No point in stocking series authors (Cornwall, O'Brian etc) unless you stock every title.

3. Stocking all of Coelho except The Alchemist, which outsells the others by a factor of 10, is ridiculous.

4. Saw lots of other examples of ingorance/incompetence. There is no point in the clever clever stuff if you can't fix the basics.

5. Staff eating their lunch should not be serving customers at the same time.

6. Staff who have never heard of Michel de Montaigne should be in another job.

7. Staff who do not know how Samedaybooks works should be properly trained.

8. Scruffy notices apologising for closing early due to staff shortages reflect appallingly on the business.

Do you still have copies of Kethani you would like reviewed? If so I would be happy to provide a review for the book, I've read the prologue online and am very intrigued by the book, after mixed reviews on "Helix" (one of Brown's earlier novels), I am interested to see how Brown fairs in this next novel.

Please let me know if there is still a need for a review. Or if there are any other science fiction novels that you are looking to be read and reviewed.

I think possibly it has something to do with the fact that people like the pretty book covers? If paper books were all printed with plain white book covers with a product sticky label with barcode like you get in the supermarket 'Strawberries £1.99'. Printed all on the same paper and in the same font style/size - somehow I think people would think printed books are boring?

Or maybe the danger of battery juice running dry would be too distressing.

Aha. Obviously people are aware of the advantages of paper books! Conversely, literary agents seem to like the Kindle for reading mss on the move.
